Suicidality
Suicidality and Suicidal Thoughts
Sometimes depression can lead one to thinking they do not want to exist, or that they want to die. Given situation and circumstance, suicidal thoughts are not uncommon and, oddly enough, can be understood as a particular way that a person is coping with a very challenging or stressful situation.
A feeling of "no way out" is like being alone in a deep hole and suicide can seem like the only logical and reasonable solution. When a person is feeling suicidal and thinking they might want to kill themselves, sometimes there is a sort of double-bind in telling anyone for the fear that the person told will react drastically. Due to this natural but not helpful reaction, the suicidal person can feel they have put themselves in an even more depressing and hopeless situation, now feeling even worse about themselves.
